Plover is an open-source stenography software that allows you to use a stenotype machine (or compatible keyboard) to input text quickly and efficiently on your computer. This guide will walk you through the steps to install Plover on a Windows computer.
To begin, please visit the on the Plover Wiki. This page contains all the information you need to install Plover on different operating systems.
Navigate to the Installation Section: Scroll down to the section titled "Install Plover on Windows."
Download the Installer: Click on the link that says "Download the Windows installer here." The installer should automatically start downloading.
Troubleshooting the Download:
If the download does not begin automatically, click on the three dots in your browser to open the 'More Options' menu.
Select "Keep" to proceed with the download.
If a security warning appears, click "Show More" and then select "Keep Anyway" to confirm the download.
Find the Installer: Once the download is complete, open your Downloads folder. You should see a file named something like plover-x.x.x-win64.setup (the exact version number may vary).
Run the Installer: Double-click on the installer file to begin the installation process.
You may need to grant permissions for the app to bypass Windows Defender SmartScreen.
The Plover installer will open.
Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
You may be prompted to choose an installation location and agree to the terms of use. Use the default settings unless you have specific requirements.
Once the installation is complete, you can launch Plover from your Start menu.
Congratulations! Plover is now installed and ready to use with your steno keyboard.
